Postpartum depression

Support and care for mental health in the perinatal period

The condition

Postpartum Depression (PPD) is a clinical condition that can occur after childbirth, characterized by persistent sadness, intense anxiety, irritability, feelings of guilt, or inadequacy lasting beyond the first two weeks. Unlike the “baby blues,” PPD has a significant impact on the new mother’s ability to take care of herself and the baby, and on family dynamics. The causes are multifactorial, linked to rapid hormonal changes, psychological stress, social factors, and individual predispositions. For this reason, early recognition and a specialized support and care pathway are fundamental for the well-being of the mother and the newborn.

Our approach

Our approach to Postpartum Depression (PPD) is based on a sensitive and timely diagnostic assessment, fundamental to differentiate PPD from the transient “baby blues” and to understand the impact on the mother’s well-being and the bond with the newborn. We recognize the importance of a personalized and integrated treatment pathway, which may include targeted psychotherapeutic interventions, psychoeducational support, and, when necessary, an evaluation for pharmacotherapy compatible with breastfeeding. The goal is to offer concrete support to the new mother to alleviate depressive symptoms, strengthen parenting resources, and re-establish emotional balance, promoting the well-being of the whole family and the healthy development of the child.
